Deep in the lung the burning begun
As we claimed the flames did not exist.
We choked on fumes as they bellowed and bloomed
And chanted “ignorance is bliss”.
The creatures all ran from the destruction of man,
And looked at us in fear.
But we turned a blind eye and let them all die,
As there was no profit here.
It didn’t become news when the sky lost its blues,
Because the shouting was of different tongue.
When the news spread of all that was dead,
The devastation was already done.
The animals flee into man made debris,
With flames in fierce pursuit,
Their death notes were made with each stone that we laid,
And their cries were turned onto mute.
For each fire that burns and each head that is turned,
Hellfire will silently wait,
As the ice caps dissolve and the fires evolve,
We’ve already written our fate.
The world will turn dry and wither and die,
As politicians judge under artificial light,
If the crisis is real and deserves their appeal,
Or if it isn’t a profitable fight.
We’ll take on last stand for the survival of man,
For our futures are all connected.
As we stare at the flames, we’ll point fingers of blame,
And the hopeless will go unprotected.
We each had a chance to take our own stance,
And make change before it was done.
But the lessons weren’t learnt and the fires still burnt,
And all of humanity was gone.

I wrote this piece when the flames I the amazon were spreading. It seems our news outlets care more for manmade violence than extreme acts of nature (which are also arguably manmade due to global warming) and so everyone, everywhere, needs to spread the news and dangers. We can only be better if we each make change. Big small, donation or action, it all counts. Speak whilst you still have a voice, make changes whilst you still have a home. Give hope to those who have lost that tomorrow will be better. Must be better.
If you’re looking for ways to make change, the following sites need donations to help Australia:
